Back Tightness Relief – Can Chiropractic Help Me?
Back pain and tightness is a very common problem. The statistics show that if you have not experienced back pain you probably will in the future. There are different areas of back tightness:
Currently, you may be seeking back tightness relief. Most research shows that when there is back pain or back tightness there is inflammation. Thus, if you are able to more effectively control inflammation the pain or tightness will improve. Thus, that is one of the reasons why ice or cold therapy can work well for painful joints and muscles.
Another common way to control inflammation would be through the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen etc. However, research also shows that tissues heal better and quicker when these medications can be taken for a short period of time over a few days or avoided completely.
So, how can you effectively experience back tightness relief? First, I would like to briefly explain some of the physiology of a spinal adjustment. There are mechanical receptors located in ligaments, joints, and muscles and when these mechanical receptors are stimulated it causes relaxation of the muscles, reduced muscle spasm, improved range of motion, and a decrease of tightness and pain.
Interestingly, a recent study looked at a marker of inflammation called CRP. In the study, the CRP was measured and it actually improved /lowered after 9 chiropractic manipulations. Thus, the adjustments improve pain, increase range of motion, cause muscle relaxation, and also reduce inflammation. A key point is this that the reduction in inflammation occurred without the use of NSAIDs or other medications to reduce inflammation.
Thus, if you are seeking back tightness relief it is important to review the benefits of spinal manipulation. The spinal manipulation reduces pain, improved range of motion, and improves muscle tightness. These benefits make activities such as getting dressed, putting on shoes, and several other activities of daily living much easier.
