Shoulder Pain Relief – Can Chiropractic Help Me?
There are many different causes of shoulder pain. The most common causes of shoulder pain include:
• Rotator Cuff Pain
• Bicepital Tendonitis
• AC Joint Pain
• Labrum
The most important factor in finding a solution to your shoulder pain is to find the pain generating structure. This can be accomplished by the practitioner taking a thorough history of the location of pain and also what activities cause you to notice your pain. In addition, the shoulder should be put through several tests to also help determine or confirm the pain generating structure.
Lets discuss some important information regarding rotator cuff sprains/strains, rotator cuff tears, and rotator cuff treatment, etc. Rotator cuff pain usually occurs on the top of the shoulder, front of the shoulder, or both the top and front of the shoulder. The pain will usually occur or be worsened by overhead activities. Also, some patients may describe pain that occurs in the outer side of the upper arm. If the pain is located in this area it usually indicates that their deltoid muscle in overworked and has become sore because of the problem with the rotator cuff.
If the rotator cuff is the problem, the patient will note difficulty in abducting their arm. The pain will most likely be occurring in the area of 35-90 degrees of abduction as this in when the rotator cuff must work.
There is some good news as studies have found that 1/3 of the population has pain free rotator cuff tears. This means there is a good chance that your rotator cuff will respond to proper conservative treatment.
