Neck Pain Symptoms – Can Chiropractic Help Me?
Neck pain symptoms is a very common reason patient’s seek treatment from practitioners such as Medical Doctors and Chiropractors. Some neck pain symptoms would include:
- Neck Tightness
- Burning Neck Pain
- Achy Neck Pain
- Sharp Neck Pain With Movement
- Right Sided Neck Pain
- Left Sided Neck Pain
- Neck Stiffness
When I work with patients experiencing neck pain I have 3 important goals.
- Pain Management
- Structural Realignment
- Restoration of Function
First, my goal is to improve pain levels and help provide relief for the patient. I will work to accomplish this with other recommendations besides the actual chiropractic treatment. First, I commonly recommend that patient’s apply ice to the neck or painful area for 20 minutes at a time. The icing can help to reduce inflammation which can help improve the patient’s neck pain symptoms.
Secondly, I will recommend a modification of activity or movement. However, the key to faster recovery is for the patient to continue to have some movement of the neck. Thus, when I refer to activity modification I advise the patient to modify any activities that cause sharp and shooting pain. However, I will encourage the patient to go through ranges of motion that are within a reasonable degree of comfort. A recommendation of trying to minimize all neck movement will cause the pain to worsen and take longer to recover from.
Another key aspect of treatment is structural realignment. When vertebra in the neck are misaligned or shift out of normal positions it causes neck pain symptoms. The chiropractic treatments are very effective for improving the realignment of the vertebra in the neck. This is a very effective for improving the frequency and severity of neck pain, improving neck range of motion, and restoring normal function. These improvements are what most patients’ desire.
